Looking into the trench (as you do) I noticed the foundations of the original Wellesbourne House wall.

Clearly at some stage in the past a substantial chunk of garden was taken by the local council to create better visibility along Walton Road and also provide a footpath instead of expecting pedestrians to walk in the road. Bare in mind that before the construction of the by-pass this was THE major route to the south on the A429. It is now a quiet back road.

I was quite lucky to have caught these photos. I took them at 9am when i arrived at my office. By Noon the trench had been back-filled and the discovery would have gone unrecorded.
