This single track line was doubled in 1939 due to a significant increase in traffic at that time. The station was originally a single platform on the far side with the coal stage on this side. However in 1939 a completely new station was created on the east side of this bridge together with a booking hall and parcels office at road level. Sadly the branchline was re-singled again in the 60's.
