Glorious - 50033

The following statement is an update of the current situation of the Class 50 diesel locomotive Glorious
The ownership of Class 50 Diesel locomotive 50033 Glorious is to be transferred from STEAM Museum of the Great Western Railway to Tyseley Locomotive Works.

Following a collections review at STEAM, 50033 was identified as not fitting comfortably into the Museum’s collecting remit and the decision was made to offer the locomotive to a more suitable home.

As an Accredited museum, STEAM has followed the stringent guidelines for the re-homing of objects as set down by the Museums Association. The culmination of this process is the locomotive being gifted to Tyseley.

In 2004, Locomotive 50033 Glorious came to STEAM as a transferred ownership from the National Collection in York. After two years on static display in Swindon, it was agreed the locomotive would move to London, on loan from STEAM’s collection, to be involved in the proposed Railschool project. Subsequently the Railschool project was abandoned and the locomotive moved to Tyseley, on loan, where she has since remained.

Transferring the ownership of the locomotive to the Tyseley collection is a natural progression of the existing partnership between the two organisations.

STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway is owned and managed by Swindon Borough Council.
