Press Release by XM655 Maintenance and Preservation Society (655MaPS)

Following a recent meeting with Radarmoor Ltd, the owners of Avro Vulcan XM655, we are pleased to be able to report their assurance that the aircraft is to have a future at Wellesbourne Mountford. Our day-to-day activities of maintenance and improvement will continue, and we remain open for visitors. In fact, bookings are such that we already have very few available dates for large visits in 2017.

The owners of XM655 said “We are happy to state that we are delighted 655MaPS will continue to be the guardians of the Vulcan at Wellesbourne and we continue to offer every support to them in their worthy endeavours in maintaining and operating a live example of the aircraft type at Wellesbourne, regardless of any future changes in the shape of the airfield operations. We are very proud of our ownership of this historic airframe over the last 24 years and we completely endorse 655MaPS activities in ensuring the future of the aircraft at Wellesbourne”.

655MaPS have decided not to organise a Wellesbourne Wings and Wheels event in 2017. In the post-Shoreham world, the amount of work required from our small volunteer organisation cannot be justified. Possible events for future years will be considered when we have a clearer view of the airfield’s availability.
