Class 47 no 47843 Vulcan

D1676 was named 'VULCAN' at Cardiff in October 1965 until removal in June 1989. She was sent to store carrying the number 47623 until 4th January 1994 returning to service with the running number of 47843.

The loco caught fire near Reading Station on 16th June 1994 whilst working the Manchester - Brighton Intercity passenger service. She was removed from the train and later moved to Doncaster Works for repairs. After Virgin Cross Country had taken lease of the locomotive she was again renamed 'VULCAN' at Old Oak Common open day held on 5th August 2000.

When Virgin handed the locomotive back to Porterbrook Leasing it was further leased to Freightliner Heavy Haul Limited.

She was purchased by Riviera Trains on 1st January 2005. Retaining her Virgin livery with red buffer beams and 'VULCAN' nameplates she was repainted in September 2006 to the companies house colours of Oxford blue livery. New 'VULCAN' nameplates were fitted in the original Western Region position on the body side along in a red background
