CONFESSION TIME.....
When I was in the cubs (now known as cub scouts) I was with another primary school friend Cliff Jones and 1 other lad at this location during the annual bob-a-job week. Bob-a-job
We were messing about, as usual, and trainspotting always hoping for an unusual train to pass by. To relieve the boredom, when a regular electric EMU was seen approaching, we were seeing who could drop a stone onto a carriage roof and the quot;winnerquot; was the person who's stone bounced the most before falling off. We did this a couple of times and then Cliff Jones pinched my cub cap and ran off down the hill with it towards Summerhill Drive. I ran after him, caught him and then we ran back up to the top of the hump back bridge again just as a Police car was approaching from the other direction. Oh help! Of course Cliff and I were gasping for breath after running up the hill as the bobby asked us what we were doing. We said we'd been doing bob-a-job down in the Summerfield Drive housing estate. He asked if we'd seen anybody on the bridge before we arrived. We were in uniform and as innocent as the day is long.... The policeman said there'd been a report of kids throwing stones at the trains. We told him we'd keep a look out for anybody and thankfully he climbed back into his Panda car and drove off! Phew- a very lucky escape. We hadn't even considered the danger of dropping stones onto the carriages that we may have smashed a window!
