Sandhills & Kirkdale Stations & Kirkdale depot.
I've travelled into Liverpool on this line hundreds of times. To the top right is Kirkdale station. Closer are the sidings and depot for the EMU (Electric Multiple Units) that monopolise the service trains here. Where the large white building is beyond the road bridge was the site of 27A Bank Hall steam loco shed. As a kid i heard this was an impenetrable fortress to get past the shed foreman so never tried. On this side of the road bridge is the junction for the tracks following the coast to Formby, Birkdale and Southport. Sandhills station is in the bottom foreground.
Also in the foreground is the Liverpool to Leeds canal along which cotton would be transported to the mills of east Lancashire and Manchester with coal being the reverse load from the late 18th Century. I still recall coal barges in the 1950's.
