The Liverpool waterfront

The Liverpool waterfront

Bottom right stands The Liver Building. I was based on the 4th floor for a few years when working for Princes Foods. Next to it is The Cunard Building and to the left of that The Mersey Docks Harbour Board Building. These buildings are known as "The 3 Graces". To the left and looking like a ski ramp is the newest and ugliest monstrosity of a building that should never have been constructed. Its the new Liverpool Museum. It has destroyed the historic Manchester Dock artifacts. (I'm pleased to say I managed to take some photos of the archaeological excavations prior to construction commencing). To the left is Canning Dock and then Jesse Hartley's magnificent Albert Dock complex. Completed in 1846 it was the 1st structure built in Britain from cast iron, brick stone with no structural wood. To the left of that is the new Liverpool Echo Arena. The next largest building is the Customs Excise VAT office rumoured to be due for closure with the loss of hundreds of jobs. On the far bank of the River mersey stands Cammel Lairds shipyard and to the right the entrance to Birkenhead docks. In addition (Thanks to Cliff J for the reminder) in the bottom left corner is Giles Gilbert Scott's magnificent Anglican cathedral. He also designed the famous red telephone kiosk's loved by all except BT.
