Shirley was the terminus for several train services at this time. The units were using the crossover, in view here, to begin their return service back to Birmingham. However with the intruduction of Class 172 units, the creation of a Park and Ride car park at Whitlocks End further south to ease the parking chaos at Shirley several trains each day terminate at Whitlocks End.
