A gold Roman ring. Inspiration for "Lord of the Rings" by JRR Tolkein perhaps?
The Roman gold ring was found near Silchester and a lead tablet which put a curse on the person who had stolen the ring was found some time later at Lydney. J.R.R Tolkein was a finds advisor to the Lydney dig and almost certainly would have heard the story of the ring and the curse. Is this the origin of Tolkein's novels "The Lord of the Rings"?
