Well what could I do? I had no chance of stopping the action so I simply fired the shutter with it set to a 30second exposure as the locomotive made its volcanic appearance from under the station bridge. Hot ash and sparks were being projected skywards like a mobile pyrotechnic display that the camera has faintly captured.
One major benefit to me was that I could actually watch the train with my own eyes instead of through a viewfinder.
Believe me when I say this was a spectacular finale to my Gala visit. Well done to all concerned.
