The 52 new 4 car Merseyrail Class 777 trains are being built by Stadler in Swizerland and Poland with bogies from Spain and bodies manufactured in Hungary.
The 6th unit will be trial fitted with a 5 tonne battery to enable the train to run on non-electrified lines.
There is an option for a further 60 trains to be ordered.
